A Local Perspective on Community and Connection in Pensacola

Nov 10, 2025 07:10PM ● By Angelica Brooks

At 27 years old, Jordan describes himself as a hardworking, passionate man who has spent his entire life in Pensacola. He enjoys being outdoors, staying active, and contributing to the spaces around him. For him, community is more than just a place—it's a shared responsibility.

“Community means working together,” he says. “It should look like people supporting one another as a whole.”

He speaks on what he sees as a shift in values. “People have different backgrounds and different standards. The idea of ‘love thy neighbor’ doesn’t hold the same weight it used to. Some people still live by it, but not everyone does anymore.”

Still, he remains hopeful about what is possible when people show up for each other.

“If the community comes together as one and we help each other out, this would be a better place. It really could be.”

He points out that support systems do exist—many of them underutilized. One example he highlights is United Way of Northwest Florida, which provides direct referrals to local services through 2-1-1, a free community resource line.

“If you dial 2-1-1, someone from United Way will pick up and connect you with what you need. They’re legit,” he says. “There are a lot of resources available here. People just need to know where to look.”

His perspective reflects something many in Pensacola continue to voice: despite challenges, the foundation for a stronger, more connected community is already here—waiting for hands willing to build it.
